Lisa Buchanan (American, born 1951) is a Seattle-based contemporary artist who creates paintings and collages. Born in San Francisco, California, Buchanan studied at Centro Intercultural de Documentación (CIDOC) in Cuernavaca, Mexico, and at Princeton University in New Jersey. The patterns and theories found in the structures of science and language have influenced the visual constructs of my work. The transport processes found in movement, the activity of fusion in constructing a structure, the elements of chaos and the equilibrium that can result are inspirations for me. My main medium is painting. Past experience includes installations and working in different media. Frequently, these materials rely on a surface that can act as a medium for painting or drawing. The very nature of abstraction lends to flexibility, change, and evolution, all strong proponents of living in the context of our current lives and the environments we create.
